Injured Hawk Rescued by Good Samaritans
Judy and Mike McDermott of Southeast believe in totems—natural objects that are symbols of personal or spiritual identity. Last week while traveling along Doansburg Road, the couple came upon an injured red-tailed hawk perched on a rail. Judy, who has taken scores of photos of wild animals, realized the raptor was in “serious distress. All her back feathers were disheveled. Full Story

Police Canine Helps Catch K-Mart Shoplifter
An alleged shoplifter kept police at bay for some time before being tracked by a canine and taken into custody on charges of larceny.
Last week’s incident took place at 2:30pm when officers from the Carmel PD were summoned to the K-Mart in Mahopac. Full Story

Bad Neighbor
A Mahopac woman who allegedly entered her neighbor’s apartment without permission to seek solace from having a fight with her daughters is facing a charge of burglary.
Carmel Police arrested Patricia Ball, 48, last week, after cops responded to the apartment complex at 25 Miller Road for a report of a burglary. Full Story
Kent Man Survives Attack By Black Bear
A Kent man will have some story to tell his grandchildren years from now—how he survived an attack by a giant black bear.
Kent Police said at 12:45am last week, a dispatcher received a call from a woman advising that her husband had been mauled by the beast outside of the family’s home on Hemlock Trail in the Hill and Dale Country Club. Full Story
