Hot Dogs & Politics On Tap Next Week
The Putnam County Courier and its sister paper the PCNR are having a picnic-style candidate forum next week.
The forum, for all candidates whose races involve Putnam County, is to begin at 6 pm at the VFW Hall on Gleneida Avenue in Carmel. All are welcome from both sides of the county. In a repeat of the popular format the newspapers first used for a sheriff's debate, free hot dogs and fixings will be offered, giving the public and candidates a chance to mingle and discuss issues.
Almost all candidates have accepted the newspapers' invitation to the forum, though the most notable exception is Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring, who is seeking reelection to the House. His opponents, former Rep. Nan Hayworth and independent Scott Smith of Orange County, do plan to attend.
A panel of Courier and PCNR staff will question the candidates. Statements and answers will be timed. The session will be recorded for replay at putnamcountycourier.com. Suggestions from the public as to possible questions are welcome. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 845-265- 2468. Races represented at the forum, besides the Congressional race, include Putnam County executive, Putnam County clerk, three legislative seats, two state Assembly seats, and two state Senate seats.
