Firefighters Save Friendly's in Carmel
Firefighters averted a calamity at Friendly's Restaurant in Carmel Wednesday when smoke was reported inside the wood frame structure around 7:45 a.m. Carmel Police arrived on the scene minutes after a 911 call was received and confirmed a heavy concentration of smoke inside the building located at Route 6 and Stoneleigh Avenue. Jobless Rate Hits 20-Year High
But Putnam fares better than rest of New York
Putnam's rate of unemployment is 6.7 percent, the highest in more than two decades. The New York State Labor Department reported the March statistics last week, which came as no surprise to Putnam lawmakers. Putnam County's Relay for Life continues to be the area's greatest fund raising event.
