Creative Writing Summer Camp Offered to Students
Children ages 8- 12 who like to tell stories, write them down, embellish them with photographs, and use their imaginations will fit "write" in at this summer's first-ever Creative Writing Camp at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES.
Three week-long sessions in July will take campers on a fun journey from brainstorming to publishing an original piece of writing. They'll learn about generating ideas, narrowing the topic, and organizing and revising thei r work f rom literacy experts who will lead campers on the creative road to authorship. At the end of the week, not only will campers take home a published anthology of the group's work, they'll post their pieces on an Internet website, enhanced with their own digital photos and artwork. And every day will include time for fast-paced writing and word games.
The two instructors are Cathy Armisto, literacy specialist (grades 4-9) at The Learning Center at Walden, a national certified educator of English language arts and an adjunct professor of Literacy and Technology at Mercy College; and Catherine Gomez, a literacy specialist (grades 5 - 12) at The Learning Center at Walden who also works with the Manhattanville College Young Writers Workshop.
Session 1 is July 13 - July 17; Session 2 is July 20 - July 24; and Session 3 is July 27 - July 31. (Campers are welcome to attend more than one session.) Each session is $225. For more information or a registration form, contact Peggy Salierno (psalierno@pnwboces. org); 914-248-2351.
