AARP to Focus on Nutrition and Allergies
Office for the Aging Director William Huestis holds an afghan donated by a local AARP member. On Saturday, May 9, 2009, Allison J. Stowell, nutrition coordinator for Hannaford Market in Carmel, will speak to the Putnam County AARP #1183 Chapter about senior nutrition and allergies. The elect ion and ins tal lat ion of 2009-2010 officers will also take place. All Putnam County seniors are urged to come to the William Koehler Center on Route 6, Mahopac, to this informative meeting. They are invited to come early, at 12:30, with a bag lunch to socialize and meet other seniors. The meeting will begin at 1pm. More and more senior s are joining this group as they realize that these AARP meetings provide opportunities to meet others from all over the county where viewpoints and ideas can be shared with new friends. If you are a local senior and want information and possibly need a ride to the AARP meetings, call President John Zaborney at 845-277-3149.
In the photo accompanying this article, Putnam County Office for Aging Director William Huestis is showing the eleventh afghan donated by an AARP Chapter #1183 member. This particular afghan completes the set of eleven donated, hand-crocheted blanket s made especially for the Senator Vincent Leibell Veterans' Retirement Home at Drewville Road in Brews ter. Wi th thi s donat ion, all eleven residents have personal afghans made by this generous AARP member who wishes to remain anonymous. She is typical of the unsung, generous senior citizens who happily enrich the lives of others in our community. Call John Zaborney at 845-277-3149 wi th quest ions about the group and its activities.
