Bears Close Regular Season with Two Wins over Ossining
BREWSTER - The Brewster Bears baseball team closed regular-season play with a pair of wins last week, topping Ossining twice - 6-1 at Ossining last Friday, after a 7-3 victory the prior Wednesday at Brewster.
Mike Blank of Brewster smacked a two-run homer last Friday in a win over Ossining, and had two RBI a second win over the Indians two days earlier. Both were League II-North games, leaving the Bears at 13-7 overall, 10-6 in the league, good for third place.
Friday at Ossining (8-11), Ryan Carter got the win for the Bears, improving to 5-2. Carter struck out six and walked one. James Emerick took the loss for the Indians.
Mike Blank smacked a two-run homer for Brewster, Carter went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Chris Byrnes was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Tyler Hanson drove in a run.
Byrnes picked up the win for Brewster two days earlier at home, improving to 4-3. He fanned four and walked one.
Blank drove in two runs, Carter was 3-for-4 with two doubles, Bob Del- Franco had one RBI and went 2-for-4, Dan Mannix was 2-for-4, Hanson went 3-for-3 with one RBI and Byrnes was 2-for-3.
Brewster is set to host a playoff game in Saturday's first round (TBA).
Bears Manager Ed Mulvihill likes the way his team has been playing as of late.
"I think we're hitting our stride," he said. "We've been on an upswing… The kids have been playing with confidence, and that's important."
