Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith has announced that Anthony Grigoroff, 18, of Lake Peekskill, has been charged with second degree murder in the New Year's Eve death of Garrison resident John Marcinak. Full Story
County Names New Historian
Patricia McMahon Houser received a warm welcome Tuesday after being confirmed as Putnam's new historian. The county Legislature unanimously endorsed the Mahopac woman's appointment at its regular monthly meeting at the Putnam Courthouse before a dozen residents in attendance. Full Story

Birds of Prey Day Brings Stars to Putnam
The Green Chimneys campus will be the place to be Sunday for Putnam County's 17th annual Wings and a Prayer: Birds of Prey Day. Hundreds of raptors and thousands of guests will visit the school's Wildlife Center at the Southeast-Patterson line to view nature in its simplest form while learning about falcons, eagles, hawks, and owls from professionals in the field. Retired MTA Police Chief Kevin McConville, endorsed by the Putnam County Democratic Committee to run for sheriff in November, will face a primary in September. The Democrats held their annual nominating convention last Thursday evening at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Carmel, where delegates heard from the candidates seeking office on the county level this fall.
