Mahopac Takes Rebels to Overtime in 9-8 Loss
Indians Don't Get Key Call as Time Expires
MAHOPAC - The way the Class A semifinal between the Mahopac and Lakeland/Panas girls was going last Thursday, everyone expected Mahopac to score before the second overtime period ended to tie it up again.

And indeed the Indians - trailing by one - got the ball and were buzzing around the Rebels crease in the final moments of the second overtime session, but Mahopac turned the ball over on a key charging call before getting a shot off, and Lakeland/Panas narrowly escaped with 9-8 victory in a game played at Lakeland High School.
The Rebels (9-5-2) went on to win the Class A championship, beating Suffern, 5-4, last Saturday. Mahopac closes the spring at 7-9.
Mahopac opened the scoring to lead 1-0, and went up 4-2 at one point. But the Rebels got hot prior to the break, and scored three consecutive goals before halftime to go up 5-4.
Mackenzy Ryan (assisted by Jillian Maloney) delivered the goal that tied it up at 8-8 with 3:19 remaining, sending the game into two mandatory threeminute OT periods.

Photos by Skip Pearlman Anna Jeszeck, who hurt Mahopac all game, came through again for the Rebels, firing home the game-winner with eight seconds remaining in the first overtime. Jeszeck finished with a hat-trick and added one assist. Cassandra Honovich added two goals and an assist, and Kate Gregorio and Megan Bozek each scored twice.
Ryan finished with a hat-trick and added an assist for Mahopac. Nicole Quarto had two goals, Maloney had a goal and an assist, Samantha Nardo and Cat Lee each scored once, and Emily Pfaffenbach and Megan Doyle each had one assist.
Gina Molfetta stopped eight shots on goal for the Indians, and Alex Fitzpatrick made 19 saves for the Rebels.
Mahopac routed Wappingers, 20-12, in the first round at Mahopac the prior Tuesday.
Maloney led the 'Pac with eight goals and four assists, and Ryan added four goals and two assists.
