Putnam Legislator Sam Oliverio has called County Executive Robert Bondi a "dictator." The accusation was made last week during discussion and debate over the county's solid waste management plan at a meeting of the county Legislature's Health, Social, Educational and Environmental Committee. No Bail for Lake Peekskill Youth Accused in Marcinak Murder
An 18-year-old Lake Peekskill youth accused in the shooting death of a popular Garrison businessman will remain incarcerated at the Putnam Correctional Facility in Carmel. Anthony Grigoroff appeared in Putnam County Court Tuesday with his attorney who requested that Judge James Reitz set bail and release the suspect to the custody of his mother. Full Story

Carmel Softball Shook Off Slow Start to Reach Playoffs
Scapoli, McCormack named to All-Section 1 team; Roell, Schult earn All-League nod
CARMEL - Eight games into the 2009 season, the Carmel High softball team was struggling mightily, saddled with a 2-6 start. But something clicked from that point on. Carmel started getting better pitching from Monica Schult, the Rams defense gelled into a cohesive unit, and the team started to get hits in important spots. Full Story

BREWSTER - Prior to the start of the 2009 season, Brewster High baseball manager Ed Mulvihill said he'd be disappointed if the Bears didn't have a turnaround season. Needless to say, Mulvihill was not disappointed. After struggling to a 10-14 record in 2008, Brewster returned this spring with it's pitching staff intact, a revamped lineup and a fresh start. Too often, fatherhood is demeaned, and in popular culture, fathers are portrayed as weak and lazy and as driven only by their appetites.
