Patterson Library hosts story time
It started with a little boy coming to the library looking for a book on gardening. He wanted to plant a vegetable garden this summer and wanted to learn how to grow plants from seeds. That was the "seed" for the "Patterson Library Story Time Garden."
Youth Services Coordinator Ellen Clancy, known to kids as "Mrs. C," has started the "Story Time Garden Club," which features a series of free programs designed to teach children the basics of gardening. The kids and their families enjoy garden themed stories and activities as they plant, weed, and harvest. Next year the garden project will expand to include a series of gardening programs for adults. Lillie Muscente, Adult Services Coordinator, has planned a 3-part series beginning in early spring with classes on vegetable gardening, starting plants from seed, and an instructional class on composting.
With the help of Erik Petersen of Petersen's Patterson Nursery, the lovely Patterson Library "Story Time Garden" is fast becoming a focal point for patrons, with people stopping by to take a look at the plants and sitting at the picnic table or bench to read, have lunch, or just spend a quiet afternoon.
