9/11 Families Demand Immigration Enforcement

Those harsh words were uttered Tuesday by Peter Gadiel, president and co-founder of the 9-11 Families for a Secure America, at a rally in Brewster to remember a young woman and her eight-year-old daughter run down and killed on the village's main thoroughfare June 8 by a drunken motorist illegally in the U.S. Full Story
Archbishop Dolan to Visit
The spiritual leader of millions of New York-area Catholics will be making his first visit to Putnam County next month. Archbishop Timothy Michael Dolan plans to bless the refurbished St. James School in Carmel on July 18 as well as attending the church's annual community feast and presiding over a special Saturday evening Mass. Crossing the State Line for Graduation
Call it a trifecta! High school graduations for Putnam's big three (Brewster, Carmel, and Mahopac) are being held on Western Connecticut State University's West Side Campus in Danbury. Previously the Carmel and Mahopac School Districts decided to cross the state line for the 2009 commencement for specific reasons. Full Story
Council Candidates Propose a 'Contract with Southeast'
At a Monday, June 22 press conference, Southeast Councilman candidates Matt Neuringer and Joe DePaola signed what they called a "Contract With Southeast" at the Brewster train station. The two candidates are running under the "Save Our Southeast" banner against Elizabeth Hudak and Sgt. Robert Cullen. Full Story
Carmel Board Bans Tobacco Advertising
The Carmel Town Board has become the first in the area to pass legislation calling for the eventual elimination of tobacco advertising in local stores. By a unanimous vote last week, the council approved the declaration following presentations by Putnam County Reality Check Coordinator, Diane Moore, and the coordinator of POW'R Against Tobacco, Anthony Massarelli. After Nine Years, Camarda Park Opens to the Public
Paul Camarda beamed like a proud father! Last Saturday, after nine years of discussion, some contentious debate, and finally construction, a 37-acre parcel of land off Seminary Hill Road donated by the Putnam entrepreneur to the Town of Carmel for the municipality's first town-owned park in the hamlet of Carmel was officially opened.
