Cub Scouts Awarded for Conservation
This conservation awards program was initiated in 1914 by Dr. William T. Hornaday, then director of the New York Zoological Park, in an effort to inspire members of the Boy Scouts of America to work constructively for conservation. The award is the oldest conservation award given in America. Lake Carmel Pack 1 planted 5 young trees in Veteran's Memorial Park in Carmel to earn the award. They were also told about conservation and the importance of conservation. In recognition for this, The Boy Scouts of America's national conservation committee has awarded them The Hornaday Unit Award. Lake Carmel Pack 1 is a member of the Westchester Putnam Council of the Boy Scouts of America. You can log on to their website, www.LakeCarmelPack1.org for more information about the pack.
