G. Edward Grant

G. Edward Grant, a longtime resident of Brewster, NY passed away July 5, 2009 at the age of 86. He was born June 30, 1923 to the late Robert and Agnes Grant. Ed was one of eight siblings, all of whom predeceased him.

Ed proudly served in the US Army. His love for the railroad brought him to Brewster where he worked as a telegraph operator and manager at the Brewster Railroad Station. Thereafter he was also employed at H.S. Stein Ford Tractor Company in Bedford Hills, NY as an accountant and at Burke Heat in Hawthorne, NY as a credit manager until his retirement in 1989.

On December 1, 1951 he married Lillian Bejean in Philmont, NY. Together they made their home in Brewster and raised three children, John Edward Grant presently stationed in Iraq, James Robert Grant of Brewster and Christina M. Grant of Brewster. Ed also leaves surviving his granddaughter, Brianna Marie of Brewster and over 50 nieces and nephews. His wife, Lillian, predeceased him in February 23, 2009. Ed was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, dear uncle and godfather and loyal friend.

Ed was a parishioner of St. Lawrence O'Toole Parish for nearly sixty years a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight, coached Brewster Little League and was an integral part of the building and dedication of Markel Park in Brewster.

His loves included the Giants, the Mets, Port Wine, his daily two mile walks, Bing Crosby, and his family. He was proud of his Irish Heritage and the country he served so well. He was a devout Catholic attending Mass on a daily basis.

Ed will be truly missed and will be remembered for the true gentleman he was, his quick wit and his wonderful sense of humor. He was blessed with a long healthy life with family and friends who loved and respected him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11, 2009 and 10:00AM.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to St. Lawrence O'Toole Church or Birthright.
