Young Pirates Rule NL Seas
Patterson 10-year-olds Shut Out North Salem, Cortlandt
PATTERSON - The Patterson Pirates 10U baseball team shut out two opponents last week, blanking Cortlandt, 5-0, Sunday at Peckham Field, after topping North Salem, 3-0, Saturday on the road.
The Patterson Pirates 10U baseball team is off to a strong 10-1 start and sitting in first place. The two wins left the Pirates at 10-1 and in first place in the National League in WPBA play.
Sunday against Cortlandt (1-7), Evan Sinitsky was the winner on the mound for the Pirates. Sinitsky fanned nine and only gave up two hits with two walks.
Mike McCormack drove in two runs for Patterson, Kyle Shilling had an RBI and a stolen base, Chris Palmiero drove in a run, and Tim Calabro went 2-for-4.
Saturday at North Salem (8-2), the Pirates got a strong performance on the mound from Palmiero, who struck out 12 and earned the win. Palmiero threw a one-hitter and walked one.
Palmiero also drove in two runs and doubled, Ryan Frey had a double, and Parker Wilson drove in a run.
"It was two good teams tied for first in the league," Patterson coach Bob Shilling said. "Chris was dominating on the mound, that was his best game yet. Defensively, Brian Harlin played great at short, and Anthony Melchione did a great job at catcher, and he threw out the only baserunner."
Shilling said the team has been playing well all season.
"Overall, they've been real good so far," the coach said. "We've struggled at times with our hitting, but Palmiero has had two no-hitters (vs. Carmel and Briarcliff), and Frey had a no-hitter (vs. Ossining). So our pitching has been pretty dominant. Chris Epps has been leading the team in hitting, and he plays a solid first base."
Patterson was set to visit Brewster today (Thursday) at Mt. Ebo at 6pm, and the team hosts Mt. Kisco Saturday at Peckham Field at 1pm.
