Bulldogs 16s Take Two from Nanuet
BREWSTER – The Tri-County Bulldogs 16U baseball team had a rough stretch last week, dropping three of five games. The Bulldogs dropped both ends of a double-header Sunday against the Dutchess Hawks, losing 5-4 in eight innings in game one, then getting shut out, 8-0, in game two, with both games played at Spackenkill.
Rob Perez of the Bulldogs had two RBI and went 2-for-3 in a win over Nanuet.
The Bulldogs (8-5) swept both ends of a Saturday twin bill, beating Nanuet 6-3 and 5-0 on the road, and TCB opened last week with a 6-2 loss to Mahopac at Peckham Field in Patterson.
Sunday in game one, a 5-4 loss, Greg Carroll took the loss on the mound in relief.
Carroll also supplied the only power blast of the game for TCB, belting a grand slam in the fourth inning.
In game two, Andrew Worth took the loss for TCB, who managed just three hits off Goehel, who picked up the win for Dutchess (14-1).
TCB’s Asa Barnes had a homer and went 2-for-2 in a win over Nanuet.
“They’re the best team in our division, and they showed it,” TCB manager Asa Barnes said of the Hawks. “They played good defense, and had the pitching to go with it. We had a shot in the first game, but they chipped away… In the second game they hit the ball well.”
Friday against Nanuet, Carroll earned the win, and got support from Asa Barnes, who smacked a homer and went 2-for-2 with a double. Rob Perez was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Kevin Soares drove in a run.
Max Reiser tossed a two-hit shutout and got the win in game two for Tri-County, striking out four with no walks.
Ryan Kuck had three RBI in the win, and Ryan Winch added one.
“We played probably our best defense in a long time,” Barnes said. “Carroll was overpowering , and Reiser pitched a pitcher’s game… not overpowering, but he made them hit his pitches. Two good performances.”
Two days earlier against Mahopac, Taylor Creazzo took the loss for TCB.
Carroll went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Soares had an RBI.
Tri-County was set to play a double header Saturday against Wappingers at 11am at RCK High School, and the Bulldogs are at Monroe to play the Crusaders Sunday at 9:30 am.
