Sox Girls Stay Hot in Cool Dog Days
Ciuffi Fans 23 in Two Kent Wins
KENT – The Kent White Sox 16U softball team continued its summerlong roll last week, knocking off Ossining, 7-2, Wednesday and North Salem, 8-2, two days earlier in WPBA play.
Kent’s Judi Barcavage had an RBI in wins over Ossining and North Salem last week.
Last Wednesday at Ryan Park in Kent, Brianna Ciuffi was in command, striking out 15 against just one walk – her first free pass of the summer season. Ciuffi allowed two runs on three hits in beating Ossining. Abigail Collen took the loss.
Ciuffi helped herself at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Oriana Paterson, Judi Barcavage and Ashley Viola each had one RBI for Kent, and Angie Periccelli went 2-for-3, as the White Sox remained undefeated at 11- 0-1.
Two days earlier at North Salem (3- 6), Ciuffi gave up two unearned runs on two hits and struck out eight in the victory. Katie McSweeney took the loss for North Salem.
Viola had two RBI and doubled, Alyssa Rodia had a triple and two RBI, Kristina Maguire went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Periccelli, Emily McDonough and Barcavage each had one RBI. Ciuffi doubled for Kent.
White Sox coach Michelle Lopane said her squad has improved steadily throughout the summer.
“They’re really picked up the level of their game,” Lopane said. “Our defense has really come together, and we’ve gotten very aggressive at the plate. Ciuffi has only allowed one walk so far all season, so that shows what kind of control she has. She’s really kept batters off balance.”
With the WPBA still offering no playoffs for the girls, Kent is set to close out its summer season this weekend. The Sox take on Kensico Friday at 6pm at Ryan Park.
