Fight Comes to Cubs’ Den
16s win three of four, clinch home field for playoffs
CARMEL – Ridge Dulitz picked up the win on the mound Saturday, as the Carmel Cubs 16U baseball team defeated Haverstraw, 8-3, in a WPBA game played at Carmel High School.

The Cubs won three of four games last week, also topping Yonkers, 7-4, Thursday on the road, and topping Shrub Oak, 4-1, the prior Monday. Carmel dropped a 7-6 decision to Yorktown last Tuesday at the Crane Road field.
The Cubs ended the week’s action at 15-4, and clinched home field in the playoffs for at least the first round. WPBA playoffs were scheduled to open this past Tuesday (8/4), with quarterfinal games. Semifinals are today (Thursday) at the higher seed, and finals for the 16s are set for Saturday at 12:30pm at Crane Road.
Saturday against Haverstraw (11-6), Dulitz went 5.2 innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits, striking out five with three walks. Nick Palmiero pitched in relief.

Palmiero also had two RBI and went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, Chase Dulitz drove in two runs and went 2-for-3 with a double, Dan Lerner and Kyle Tanner each had an RBI, and Charlie Mills was 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.
Last Thursday at Yonkers (13-2, first place), Ryan Anderes earned the win on the mound for Carmel. Anderes went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Chase Dulitz drove in three runs and went 2-for-4 with a double, Ron Stolle had two RBI, Anderes tripled in a run and went 2-for-3, and Jim Hanna had one RBI.
Tuesday against Yorktown, Lerner took the loss for Carmel, which got two RBI from Scott Sheppard. Palmiero drove in two runs and went 2-for- 4, Anderes and Chase Dulitz each had one RBI, and Hanna went 3-for-3.

Cubs coach Jon Lerner said the team has been playing well as the regular season winds down.
“Right now we’re running on all cylinders,” Lerner said. “We’ve been getting timely hitting and good pitching. Mills has been consistent, so has Sheppard and Chase Dulitz, and Hanna always seems to be on base… The team is playing well going into the playoffs.”
