One-Loss Pirates Clinch Division
Patterson 10s spank Ossining, 6-0, in opener
PATTERSON — The Patterson Pirates 10U baseball team won its final four regular-season games last week, beating Mount Kisco, 12-2, Saturday, Kent, 11-1, also Saturday, after topping Carmel, 10-0, last Thursday. The Pirates opened the week with a 10-0 blowout of Ossining the prior Tuesday.
Chris Epp of Patterson had two RBI in a win over Kent Saturday, and two in Monday’s playoff win over Ossining.
Patterson completed its regular season with a 16-1 record, clinching the American Division title and earning the top seed in playoffs.
Saturday at Peckham Park against Mt. Kisco (10-7), Chris Palmiero and Kyle Shilling combined on a twohitter. Palmiero earned the win in the four-inning game (mercy rule).
Palmiero went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, Parker Wilson had two RBI, and Ryan Frey had two doubles and three RBI.
Earlier Saturday against Kent, Frey and Brian Harlin combined on a onehitter with 11 strikeouts, with Frey getting the win on the mound.
Palmiero (three RBI) and Anthony Melchione (two RBI) each doubled, Shilling went 3-for-3, and Chris Epp doubled and went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Last Thursday against Carmel, Evan Sinitsky pitched a one-hitter in the 4 ½ inning game, striking out nine. Tim Catalano had two singles in the game. Palmiero (two RBI) and Mike McCormack (two RBI) each doubled., and Shilling had two RBI.
Two days earlier in a four-inning win over Ossining, Palmiero and Harlin combined on a one-hitter, striking out seven.
Palmiero had four RBI and went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, Melchione added two RBI and Wilson drove in two runs.
Monday night at Peckham, the No.1 Pirates opened the playoffs by topping No. 8 Ossining, 6-0.
Patterson improved to 17-1, and was set to play in the American Division semifinals Tuesday. The American final was set for tonight (Thursday), and the overall WPBA 10YO championship game is set for Saturday at Crane Road at 2pm.
Against Ossining (7-12), Palmiero got the win, tossing a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts.
Epp and Frey each had two RBI in the victory.
“This was a gutty performance,” Patterson manager Dan Wilson said. “It was tight for three innings, the Ossining pitcher threw great for three innings, and they cut down two runs at the plate. Palmiero was phenomenal… he did what he’s done all season. He gives us a chance every game he goes out. Epp had two great at-bats – in the fourth and fifth… that was clutch hitting.”
