Thursday, August 20 Huge Closing Sale
New Voting Machines
The Putnam County Board of Elections will be demonstrating the new ImageCast optical scan voting machines at the Kent Public Library, 17 Sybil’s Crossing, on Thursday, August 20, 10am to 12pm. These Image- Cast optical scan voting machines will replace the old lever voting machines at all Putnam County voting locations beginning with the 2009 Primary Election on September 15 and the 2009 General Election on November 3. Come and find how the new machines work before casting your ballot.

Children’s Leather
Workshop
On Saturday, August 22nd at 10:30am, the Southeast Museum will hold a Children’s Leather Workshop. Discover the fun of leather crafting and learn carving, punching, and finishing a leather bracelet. American Blue

Art Awards
Putnam Arts Council invites the public to attend the Closing Reception & Awards Presentation of our 17th Annual Art After Seventy-Five exhibit from 3-5pm at PAC’s Brewster location (the Lodge, 100 Rte 312). Awards will be presented to four artists including Olive Sabato and Shirley Kalikow, both of Heritage Hills, Somers, Agnes Tomaselli of Woodstock, and Heliodoro Santa- Coloma of Mahopac. Sherman Car and Bike Show
The Sherman 4th grade class of 2009-2010 Car and Motorcycle Show at Volunteer Park in Sherman, CT will be held from 1-6pm. Proceeds from this event will help defray the cost of their trip to Washington, DC, in the spring of 2010.
The cost is $10 per show car, which includes a chance on one of the door prizes from local merchants. If you have a car to show, please come to the park starting at 1pm. Spectators are welcome at the bargain rate of $5 per car starting at 2pm.

Firearm Safety Course
The “Home Firearm Safety Course” sponsored by the National Rifle Association will be conducted in New Milford on Sunday, September 20, 2009. The four-hour course for safe gun handling is conducted in the classroom only. This is not the Basic Handgun Course to obtain a handgun permit.
