School buses are lined up for the first day of class for the 2009-2010 school year that gets underway throughout the region after Labor Day. School bus fleets have been prepped and prepared for the beginning of the new school year.

While faculty and staff in most area school systems return September 1 for a series of superintendent’s conferences and meetings, Putnam’s 17,000 boys and girls will not return to class for the 2009-10 school year until after Labor Day.

During a visit to the Brewster School District’s Transportation Center last week, director Jack Coxen commended his personnel for doing an outstanding job this summer: “The 99 vehicles that transport our children more than one million miles each year have been serviced and are raring to go.”

Bus fleets in the region’s other schools—Carmel, Mahopac, North Salem, Putnam Valley, Haldane, and Garrison—have also been readied for the new term as well as being inspected by the New York State DOT.
