Tough grandma alive after rollover accident
Eric Gross Officer Richard Rosario inspects an overturned vehicle on Route 301 in Carmel last week as EMS personnel assist the lone occupant of the car nearby. A Patterson woman on her way to visit her grandchildren in Lake Peekskill wound up at Putnam Hospital Center instead when her vehicle skidded out of control and overturned.
Carmel Police investigated last week’s crash that occurred at 11:30am on Route 301 less than a half mile from the Kent town line.
Police said Marguerite Groff was headed westbound, and as she rounded a curve, the vehicle went out of control and flipped over. Groff, who was alone at the time, managed to crawl out of the demolished car through a window, but during the process cut her legs on broken glass.
A representative of the Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services arrived on the scene minutes later and offered the woman assistance, while calls were made for emergency personnel from the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Carmel FD.
Groff was taken to the hospital, where she was treated in the emergency room for cuts and bruises and was later released.
Police issued no summons. The crash was investigated by Officer Richard Rosario.
Carmel FD Fire Police also assisted at the scene.
