School tax bills decline
Residents in the Brewster School District will be receiving a break on their school taxes.
Assistant Superintendent Tim Conway reported this week last spring the Board of Education had promised residents “no increase in this year’s tax levy, meaning no hike in the total amount of school taxes billed to the community.” Full Story
Board of Elections says it needs additional space
New technology, along with additional personnel, is resulting in a challenging situation at the Putnam Board of Elections Office in Southeast. Elections Commissioners Robert Bennett and Anthony Scannapieco, along with Deputy Commissioner Nancy Quis, met with members of the Putnam Legislature’s Physical Services Committee last week pleading their case and requesting immediate assistance. Tough grandma alive after rollover accident
A Patterson woman on her way to visit her grandchildren in Lake Peekskill wound up at Putnam Hospital Center instead when her vehicle skidded out of control and overturned.
Carmel Police investigated last week’s crash that occurred at 11:30am on Route 301 less than a half mile from the Kent town line. Full Story
Patriot Day ceremony will remember 9-11 victims
On Dec. 18, 2001, former President George Bush signed into law a resolution unanimously approved by both houses of Congress proclaiming Sept. 11 as Patriot Day—when “all Americans are urged to display the flag of the United States at half-staff in honor of those men and women who lost their lives as a result of terrorist attacks against the US on September 11, 2001.” Full Story

Legislators discuss infrastructure
Parking and sidewalks were on the minds of Putnam legislators when discussing infrastructure improvements in the county seat.
Members of the Physical Services Committee met last week and declared the county as lead agency in the upcoming Carmel Sidewalk II Project that will result in the construction of sidewalks from the Putnam Plaza into the hamlet. Full Story
