Joseph A. Roco
Joseph A Rocco was born to the late Emma Emiro Rocco and Francisco Rocco. Joseph was born in Mount Vernon, New York, the third of seven children on April 28, 1928. He graduated from Edison High School in Mount Vernon, New York in 1946, where he was recognized for the highest average in math and science for four consecutive years.
He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the U.S.S Jeffers.
Upon his discharge, Joseph attended NYU, Columbia University, and C.W Post, where he respectively graduated with honors.
He was an educator for 33 years in the Mount Vernon school system. He held various positions which included teacher, guidance counselor, principal, supervisor of attendance, and district school administrator. Joseph also was elected to serve on the Brewster School Board. He had an extensive background in architectural and mechanical drawing, receiving a diploma from the Edison Defense School.
He is survived by his wife, best friend and soul-mate of 56 years, Barbara (Kuhlwein) Rocco, his daughter Barbara (Rocco) Sutliff, and husband Robert of Richmond, Virginia and his two sons, Frank Rocco of Richmond, Virginia and Joseph Rocco Jr. and Diane Vicinanza of Brewster, New York; and seven adoring grandchildren, Jodi, Amy and Jason Rocco of Brewster, New York, Allison (Rocco) Moore of El Paso, Texas and Kevin, Jonathan and David Sutliff of Richmond, Virginia, and two great grandchildren .
He has three surviving sisters, Anna Pascazi, Josephine Migliaccio, and Angela Milano all of Brewster, New York, A sister-in-law Eleanor Rocco and a brother-in-law Michael DiVenuto, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son Kevin Michael Rocco, his sisters Mary Tobacco and Antoinette DiVenuto, a brother Vincent Rocco, and 3 brothers in laws.
Callng hours were held Tuesday September 8, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Interment followed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster.
