Jazz Soiree

Ad-Hoc Meeting
The Town of Carmel and the Mahopac Chamber of Commerce have established a joint Ad-Hoc committee. The purpose of the committee is to investigate possible improvements to the Downtown Mahopac Business area. In connection with this contemplated work, the Town of Carmel has received funding from New York State and New York City in the amount of $300,000.00. In an attempt to ensure full participation of all affected Business Owners, the Chamber is hosting an informational meeting where your input will be sought.
Discussions will include, but not be limited to the following:
1. Parking 2. Beautification 3. Pedestrian access and safety 4. Outdoor dining 5. Traffic flow
6. Lighting
The meeting will be held on Thursday September 17th 2009 at 7pm at meeting room number 2 in the Carmel Town Hall.

Flower Show
The Brewster-Carmel Garden Club will present a Standard Flower Show called "The Clock is Striking Autumn" at the Tilly Foster Farm, Route 312, Brewster, in September. Dates and times for this show are Friday, September 18 from 2 to 4pm and Saturday, September 19 from 10 to 4pm. Floral designs and horticulture will be featured and the show is open to the public with free admission.

Firearm Safety Course
The “Home Firearm Safety Course” sponsored by the National Rifle Association will be conducted in New Milford on Sunday, September 20, 2009. The four-hour course for safe gun handling is conducted in the classroom only. This is not the Basic Handgun Course to obtain a handgun permit. Film
Putnam Arts Council is pleased to announce our September film, Constitution Island: American Landmark screened in honor of the Hudson Quadricentennial. The screening, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20 at noon. Arts Council’s headquarters at Tilly Foster Farm, Building #8.
Young pianist Jason Cutmore, described as “charismatic,” with “brilliant finesse,” will perform in The Chapel of Our Lady Restoration on Sunday, September 20. Free to the public, the concert begins at 4pm. The chapel is located at 45 Market Street, Cold Spring. Free parking is available on weekends at the adjacent Metro-North train station.

September 25-27
Fall Outing
Fall Outing, Sept. 25-27, features a full schedule of hikes, canoe and kayak trips, bike rides and other events highlighting the scenic beauty of Harriman State Park, Sterling Forest and other natural areas. The 32 events even include a hike in New York’s Central Park.
Preregistration is required and the registration deadline is Sept. 4. The registration fee for the weekend is $25 per person. There is an additional $35 fee for the Saturday buffet banquet. The event is open to Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) members and nonmembers.
Fall Outing headquarters will be the Holiday Inn, 3 Executive Blvd., Suffern (Thruway Exit 14 B). The hotel is holding a block of rooms for Fall Outing participants until Sept. 1.

Historical Tour
The Hudson River Valley Ramble is a series of events coordinated by the Institute of History, Archaeology and Education (IHARE). 10 am-12:30 pm. This bus tour begins and ends at the Mahopac Public Library, 668 Route 6, Mahopac. The cost is $20 per adults and $10 for children 16 and under (fee includes a t-shirt). Street Fair

A watercolor exhibit by artist Monica Craig is currently on view in the 3rd Floor Gallery at Mahopac Public Library through September 30th. Monica, who lives in Mahopac with her husband, was born and raised in Bolivia and emigrated in 1979.There will be a reception the Library on Sunday, September 13th, from 1 to 4:30pm.
