Colette Lane Abels

Mrs. Colette Lane Abels, 87, of Lakeland, FL, died September 6, 2009 from respiratory failure. A lifelong Catholic, Mrs. Abels was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church. She was predeceased in 2006 by Arthur Abels, her husband of 63 years and the great love of her life.

Mrs. Abels is survived by her five sons and their spouses, Bruce and Joan Abels of Lakeland, FL; Stephen and Kathleen Abels of Brewster, NY; Paul and Linda Abels of Hernando, FL; Edward and Pamela Abels of Pompton Lakes, NJ; and Andrew and Stacey Abels of Madison, CT. She is also survived by her sister, Celine Devers of Coconut Creek, FL, and by ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Abels had a long career as a teacher at St. Lawrence O’Toole School in Brewster, and at public elementary schools in New Jersey. This was followed by 25 wonderful years of retirement in Pinehurst, NC, before moving to Lakeland in 2006.

There will be no separate viewing. Condolences may be sent to the family at 737 Milltown Road, Brewster, NY 10509. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 26 at 10:30am at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3720 Old Hwy 37, Lakeland, FL, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Memorials may be made to Volunteers in Service to the Elderly, 1232 Magnolia Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801.
