Former Southeast Town Judge James Borkowski was leading two-term Sheriff Donald Smith in Tuesday’s Republican Primary by 87 votes with two districts to report. But those election precincts in Kent and Patterson made the difference and the sheriff eked out a win by a margin of 169 votes. Full Story

Primary Goes Smoothly Until the Tally
Putnam County’s first attempt with new optical scan voting machines was nearly picture perfect until it came time to tally the results.
The county used the technology on Primary Day. Legislator Dan Birmingham of Brewster became the first voter in the county to use the machine when he cast his ballot early Tuesday in Brewster. Full Story
