Brewster Boys, Girls Finish 2nd at Red Raiders

BREWSTER – The Brewster High boy and girls cross country teams both placed second at the Red Raiders Invitational cross country meet last weekend.

Dan Schiff Brewster’s Charlie Carr led the Bears boys at the Red Raiders Invitational. For the Brewster boys, Charlie Carr was fourth in a time of 17:13, Mike Thomas took fifth in 17:14, Adam McIe was ninth in 17:44, Neeraj Suryanarayanan was 10th at 17:50, Justin Maguire was 22nd in 18:36 and Nick Foy took 33rd at 19:07.

“The boys team ran very well,” Bears coach Joe Scelia said. “Charlie and Mike have been running extremely well together, Adam and Neeraj were also strong, and Justin Maguire has stepped up to be our fifth man right now. Justin is a very hard worker with a ton of upside. It was a real good meet overall.”

The Bears girls were led by Ariana Bottalico’s second-place, 20:39 finish. Nicole Zazzero was fourth in 21:14, Miriam Munn took 16th in 22:40, Jess Zurheide was 24th in 23:13, Michelle Zazzero was 33rd in 24:14, Sam Waruch took 36th at 24:36 and Aine Chalmers was 40th in 25:05.

Dan Schiff Ariana Bottalico led the Brewster girls with a second-place finish. “It was a solid performance for the girls,” Scelia said.”Ariana and Nicole ran remarkably well. The pack continues to improve. I was happy with the second place performance. The girls continue to come together as a team, and I know they will continue to get better. Jess Zurheide and Michelle Zazzero ran strong races as well.”

Brewster is set to attend the Ocean State Invitational Saturday in RI.
