Mahopac Fail to Get Offense on Track in Loss to John Jay
Showdown with Carmel set for this weekend
MAHOPAC – The Mahopac High football team dropped a 21-0 decision to John Jay of East Fishkill in a League AA-North game played last Thursday night in East Fishkill.
Mahopac’s offense failed to score a point for the second consecutive week – not a good sign for the Indians, especially with Carmel scheduled for this weekend.
John Jay (2-0) scored on a 60-yard TD pass in the second quarter, and added two short runs that capped long drives in the fourth quarter.
For Mahopac (0-2), QB TJ Foley went 5-of-10 for 72 yards in the air and was intercepted once. He also rushed for 52 yards on 12 carries. Dillon Addonizio also had 52 yards rushing, on 11 trips, and Tom Viento ran for 24 yards on four attempts.
James Lenehan had an interception in the second for Mahopac, and Rob Dwyer had a fumble recovery in the third quarter.
Jay also sacked Foley three times.
“Despite the final score, I think we played quite a bit better than we did in week one,” Mahopac coach Tom Donahoe said. “They wore us down… they were big and physical. We were unable to sustain drives… we moved the ball, but we couldn’t finish. And our defense was on the field for the majority of the second half..”
With Mahopac set to host Carmel Saturday, Donahoe and his staff are searching for answers.
“We need to reduce the penalties,” he said. “Especially on offense, and we need to finish drives on offense.”
To compete against Carmel, Donahoe said the Indians “need to limit (Ryan) Shilling’s ability to pass and run, and we need to move the ball effectively.”
Mahopac hosts Carmel Saturday at 1:30pm.
