Rams Hold on to Defeat John Jay

CARMEL – The Carmel High football team held off a furious rally by John Jay of Cross River in the final minutes last Thursday night, and walked off with a 31-28 League AA-North victory to even its record at 1-1.

Carmel led 31-14 with under 4:00 to play. But the Indians scored on a 19- yard TD run by Hime Rraci to make it 31-20, and then Jay recovered an onsides kick, marched down the field and scored again – on a two-yard run by Rraci. A successful two-point conversion made it a three-point game.

Jay tried another onsides kick, but this time the Rams recovered, and escaped with their first win of the season.

RJ Krauss of Carmel put the Rams on the board early, scoring on a 53-yard run in the first quarter.

Jay’s Jameson Pickel made it a 7-7 game after a five-yard run, also in the first.

Dylan Lovett gave the Rams a 10-7 lead on a 38-yard field goal, and Carmel got a 42-yard run by Ryan Shilling in the second quarter to go up 17-7 at halftime.

Krauss scored on runs of seven yards and 14 yards in the second half.

Shilling finished with 140 yards rushing, and 75 yards receiving.

No other statistics were available as of press time.
