The Indians fell to 2-1.
Caitlin Baranowski put Mahopac up 1-0, assisted by Abby Armstrong, 5:00 into the game. But the Tigers answered with a goal from Maria Rao at 13:13, and went up 2-1 with 10:30 left in the half on a score by DeChent, assisted by Hannah Tavella.
Mahopac tied the game at 2-2 4:00 into the second half when Annie Carroll converted a pass from Ashley John.
But the Tigers got the decisive goal from DeChent, who again capitalized on a feed from Tavella, with 12:00 left in the game.
“They had two real nice plays on free hits,” Mahopac coach Dona DiMaggio said of the two DeChent goals. “There was no way for us to stop those… But I was happy with the way we played. We felt we were pretty evenly matched, so this was a heart breaker. And after they went up 3-2, we had some opportunities, we were knocking at the door, but we couldn’t put it in. Abby Armstrong had a strong game at midfield, and John had an outstanding game. She looked real good going to the ball. Baranowski also played an amazing left side.”
