CHS Athletic Hall of Fame to induct class of 2009 Saturday

Fifteen Carmel High School graduates of yesteryear and the 1989 CHS Varsity Baseball team will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend.

The scholar-athletes will attend a special plaque-unveiling inside the school at 9:30am Saturday, followed by the annual Homecoming Parade at 11am.

Pre-game introductions will take place on the football field at 11:45 am with the kickoff scheduled for 1:30pm.

The day concludes at 6:30pm with a dinner scheduled for the Mahopac Golf Club when Superintendent Dr. James Ryan and Board of Education President Richard Kreps will congratulate the inductees followed by their introduction by School Trustee William Shilling, a member of the Hall of Fame Committee.

On Friday evening, a homecoming bonfire and fireworks display are planned at the George Fischer Middle School between 7pm and 9pm.

This year’s inductees include Joseph Dawson—Class of 1941; Leon Griffeth— Class of 1943; Jean Johnson— Class of 1948; Art Smith—Class of 1955; John Prahl—Class of 1957; Bill Howell—Class of 1959; George Griffeth— Class of 1967; Stuart Pratt— Class of 1970; Tony Olang—Class of 1980; Mary Dillon—Class of 1988; John Guglielmo—Class of 1989; Bill DeWitt—Class of 1991; Kevin Feighery— Class of 1991; Janet Apap— Class of 1992 and Kevin Zaug—Class of 1997.

Members of the championship 1989 CHS Varsity Baseball Team will also be on hand for the occasion.

The induction is open to the public.
