Wins Elude Brewster Field Hockey
BREWSTER—The Brewster High field hockey team battled to a pair of 1-1 ties last week, against Mahopac and Pawling, and the Bears opened the week with an 8-3 loss to Putnam Valley.

Saturday against Mahopac, Michaela Spannaus gave Brewster a 1-0 lead late in the first half, assisted by Marisa Delzio.
But Mahopac answered with a goal from Courtney Stein in the last 40 seconds of the game.
Kristin Cartledge stopped 10 shots for Brewster, and Kaitlin McCormack had five saves for the Indians.
Brewster’s record was 1-1-2 (0-0-1 in league) after the tie.
“The girls played well,” Bears coach Shannon Riley said. “They’re getting together and communicating more. In the final 10 seconds Delzio had a chance at another goal, but time ran out. Katie O’Connell, Kaity Roberts and Jenna Leser all stepped up and played well for us. And Molly Black and Erin Taylor, our two captains, also played well.”

Brewster got a goal from Taylor, assisted by Jess Griesinger, against Pawling. But Aubry Dakin had a goal for Pawling in the deadlock.
Cartledge had four saves for Brewster, and Pawling’s Sam Baughan stopped five shots.
In the loss to Putnam Valley the prior Tuesday, Griesinger scored twice for Brewster and Spannaus had a goal.
“They play on turf, and we’re not used to the speed,” Riley said. “That’s something we have to work on.”
Brewster hosts its own tournament this weekend. The Bears take on Dover tonight (Thursday) at 5pm, and John Jay EF plays Pawling at 7pm Saturday’s championship game is set for 7pm., with the consy scheduled for 5pm.
