Roll to wins over Panas, Yorktown
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High boys soccer team kept the intensity up last week, and picked up two more wins. The Indians shut out Panas, 4-0, Saturday in a League 1-B matchup on the road, and Mahopac topped Yorktown, 3-1, two days earlier at home.
The two wins left the Indians at 6-1-2 overall, and 2-0-1 in league play.
Saturday at Panas (1-5), James Schiera deposited two goals in the back of the net, and Luke Fariselli and Arthur Strzepka each scored once. Renato Chira handed out two assists.
Adam Basuljevic and David Ferreira each had one save for Mahopac, and Ian Thomasset stopped 12 shots for the Panthers.
Against Yorktown, Strzepka had a strong game, scoring twice and assisting on another goal. Rob Shira had a goal, and Chira added an assist.
Basuljevic stopped 12 shots for Mahopac, and Luis Lizarzabura had six saves for the Cornhuskers.
“We did a great job against Yorktown,” Indians coach Chris Emery said. “The difference was that we took advantage of opportunities. Arthur had a great game, Rob also did a great job. Both have been great up front. And our defense has been solid. Dave Sparozic has been doing a great job at sweeper, and Fariselli is doing great at fullback. And Adam has been solid all season.”
Mahopac is set to travel to Brewster Friday for a 4:30pm game.
