Two dozen business owners and local residents now have a better idea of what it takes to improve the value of their property. Last week Cornell Cooperative Extension teamed up with the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Keep Putnam Beautiful Campaign by holding a seminar that taught attendees it doesn’t take much to increase property value. An Evening of Drummers rocks Putnam Lake VFW
The Putnam Lake VFW Hall was a drummer’s haven when students from Nick Mangini’s Drum School presented the second annual Evening of Drummers event.
Last week’s program featured 27 drummers, ranging from sixth graders to high school students and from college students to professional performers. Full Story

Funds OK’d for Lake Oscawana clean-up
Lake Oscawana water quality will be pure once again now that the House of Representatives approved a $400,000 grant as part of the 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Act.
News of the 263-162 vote came from Congressman John Hall, who visited the lake last May to view the problem firsthand and meet with local community leaders. Full Story

$3,000 Collected for Juvenile Diabetes Association
A lot of hair was swept from the floor at Michael Roberts Salon and Spa in Mohegan Lake, but John Boggi of Mahopac, who owns the popular business, didn’t mind at all.
Boggi realizes the frustration and pain caused by Juvenile Diabetes, and last Sunday hosted a Cut-A-Thon to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, with $3,000 collected. Full Story

Putnam Youth Court training is underway.
Youth Court is an alternative to Family Court, in which teens arrested for violations and misdemeanors such as criminal mischief, loitering, petty larceny, or disorderly conduct are tried and judged by their peers in a formal court setting. Full Story
