Troopers Investigate Brewster Robberies

Brewster State Police are asking the public for help in finding those responsible for back-to-back robberies that took place in residential neighborhoods in Brewster on Monday night.

Station Commander Sgt. Joseph Malorgio said the first incident took place at 8:30pm when a man was walking on Marvin Avenue: “A vehicle approached from the rear and a front-seat passenger, described as a Hispanic man standing 5 feet 3 inches tall and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, exited the car and told the victim to lay on the ground while a handgun was held to the man’s head.”

Sgt. Malorgio said the operator of the vehicle, described as a white man, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall with a white jacket and red winter cap, exited to assist. The two men stole the victim’s wallet and cash and fled westbound on Marvin Avenue.

Thirty minutes later, an attempted robbery took place on Eastview Avenue near Prospect Street in Brewster when a man who was walking down the street was approached by a Hispanic man who pulled a gun and demanded money.

Sgt. Malorgio said the victim ran from the scene and before he escaped reportedly observed a second Hispanic man pursuing him. Both suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Despite the efforts of a small army of troopers from Brewster and Somers, as well as Putnam County Sheriff’s Department personnel and Brewster Village Police, who scoured the area for over an hour, the suspects escaped.
