Coin and Stamp Appraisals Will Be Offered This Weekend
Coin and stamp appraisals have become a rite of autumn in Putnam County.
On Saturday, the Croton River Numismatic Society of Carmel will offer a free appraisal of U.S. and foreign coins, paper money, stamps, medals, and tokens from 9am to 5pm at Carmel FD headquarters.
Society public information director Ralph Behringer forecast Saturday’s event will be special, since “this is our 40th semi-annual appraisal.”
Last year more than 100 men and women attended the session. Behringer said some came from as near as Carmel, Mahopac, and Brewster while others traveled from Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Westchester, and Fairfield counties, and even from the Bronx.
“With the price of gold and silver reaching record highs, coins containing these precious metals have increased dramatically in recent days making the free appraisal even more valuable. Collector coins and paper money have also shown substantial price increases in recent months,” said Behringer.
Those performing the appraisals each have more than 35 years of experience in their hobby and have performed hundreds of appraisals, including those for estate and insurance purposes. Behringer said by “using the most current price guides both coins and stamps made from 1600 to the present can be attributed and appraised.”
