Recognizing Eric Gross’s Contributions

On Friday, October 16, 2009, the National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependencies of Putnam County honored your very own Eric Gross. For many years, Eric has been a strong advocate and supporter of the Council. He has provided positive press on the highly sensitive topic of addiction that we know people seldom feel comfortable discussing.

Eric’s dedication to journalism has enabled the Council to carry out its mission of raising awareness about alcohol and other drugs. We are genuinely grateful for all of Eric’s contributions and his commitment to the Council’s mission. I have had the privilege of experiencing Eric’s enthusiasm and tireless efforts. Eric truly goes above and beyond what is expected of him and consistently demonstrates a selfless dedication in all that he does.

As Eric pointed out in his remarks, “…alcoholism and drug abuse have reached new heights, not only in Putnam County, but across America. Nearly 100,000 Americans died last year as a result of alcohol abuse. Alcohol is a factor in more than half of our nation’s homicides, suicides, and traffic crashes. It is the number one drug of choice among America’s youth. Teens that begin drinking before they are 21 are four times more likely to develop alcoholism than young people who begin at age 21.”

Eric’s recognition was simply our way of acknowledging this truly professional yet personable journalist whose hard work and dedication have benefited Putnam County. It is our hope that all Eric has done in his career to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs should simply not go unnoticed!
