Rosalye B. Raney

Rosalye B. Raney of Brewster, New York died Monday October 19, 2009, in Carmel, at the age of 90.

Mrs. Raney was born November 3, 1918, in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late Malcolm and Estelle (Rothenberg) Diffenderffer. She graduated from New York City schools and then married Thomas E. Raney on Jan. 19, 1939 in New York City. Thomas predeceased his wife in 1974. Mrs. Raney worked for seventeen years at the NY Botanical Garden before retiring in 1988. In 1993 she moved to Carmel, and later settled in Brewster.

Mrs. Raney is survived by eight children; Donald Raney of Manhattan; Bruce Raney of Maui, HI; Diane Friedman of South Jamesport, NY; Cynthia McCafferty of Tucson, AZ; Linda Rose of the Bronx; Karen Naughton, Judith Terrana and Debra West of Brewster; twenty one-grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Thomas in 1964.

A funeral service will be held today, Oct. 22, 2009, at 11:30am at St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem. Internment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. Calling hours were on Wednesday at the Beecher Funeral Home, in Brewster.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Raney’s name may be made to the American Lung Association.
