A Putnam Valley man already facing state prison following a felony DWI arrest in Peekskill last summer has copped a guilty plea to menacing in Yorktown as the result of a road rage incident resulting in the death of an army buddy. Full Story
Anxious Moment at Putnam Plaza
There were some anxious moments at the Putnam Plaza Shopping Center in Carmel when an alarm of “confirmed fire” was broadcast on county police and fire radio frequencies.
Last week’s incident took place at 12 noon, when the Putnam 911 Dispatch Center received several calls reporting smoke filling the Blockbuster Video store. Full Story

County Prepares for Snow and Ice
New York State will reimburse Putnam County for plowing, salting, and sanding a number of state highways across the county this winter in conjunction with a pilot program authorized by state and county officials.
The Putnam Legislature approved the agreement last week and forwarded the measure on to County Executive Robert Bondi for his signature. Full Story

Races will be decided on the county, town, and village levels next Tuesday when voters go to the polls.

Battle-tested Smith Looks to Remain Putnam’s Top Lawman

Most people relent when they are being chased by a cop and a judge, but Don Smith survived his contentious Republican primary battle with Judge James Borkowski and former NYPD Captain Andrew DeStefano. Smith came out of the September contest battle-tested and now must contend with former chief of the MTA Police, Kevin McConville, to retain his position as Putnam’s top lawman. Full Story

New Yorkers to Vote on Constitutional Amendments
Voters in Putnam County will face two statewide ballot measures on November 2. Proposal 1 would amend the New York State constitution to allow the state to carry out a small land deal near Canada, in order to build a power line.
