Carmel High Students Recite Rug Room Monologues
Chi ldren enrol led in special educat ion clas ses at Carmel High School are an integral part of their educational institution. Principal Kevin Carroll put it this way: “Even though a child might have an emotional, physical or psychological disability, he or she can become a part of mainstream society. We are learning to see the person and not the disability.” That premise prompted teaching assistant Geri Munich to write a poem entitled the “Rug Room” a decade ago that expressed the voices of students in special educat ion.
