Mahopac Rotarians Welcome Football Champs
Mahopac football captains (right) welcome their counterparts from Carmel to last week’s Lake Mahopac Club Rotary luncheon to break bread together.
The Mahopac-Carmel competition exists not only on the football gridiron, but also when it comes to Rotary affairs.
Members of the Lake Mahopac Rotary Club welcomed captains from both the Mahopac High School and Carmel High School football teams to lunch last week.
Mahopac students Michael Brereton, Robert Dwyer, Prisco Demercurio, and Robert Ricci greeted their counterparts from Carmel High—Nicholas Sadowski, Ryan Shilling, Frank Smith, and Alex Alers.
Rotarian Wendy Erickson explained: “Not only is there competition between the schools but friendly competition as well between the Rotary clubs. Our mission remains the same—service above self!”
Each fall following the Town of Carmel Football Classic the winner’s local Rotary hosts the football trophy.
This year the Indians defeated the Rams, so the magnificent trophy will be on display in Mahopac.
Following some good old-fashioned “ribbing” the two teams of captains sat down for a friendly lunch.
