A Dutchess County man was killed Tuesday in a car-truck crash on Route 9 north of the Route 403 interchange in Garrison.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as Arvinder Kohli, 57, of Wappingers Falls.
Captain William McNamara said Kohli’s 1999 Nissan Altima was headed northbound when, just north of the Route 403 intersection, for an unknown reason, it crossed into the oncoming lane and plowed head-on into a 10-wheel flatbed truck traveling in the opposite direction driven by Robert Vigliotti, 45, of Peekskill.
Kohli was pinned in his demolished vehicle and was extricated with the Jaws of Life before being air-lifted by a STAT-Flight helicopter to the Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
A section of Route 9 was closed in both directions for several hours Tuesday until the accident reconstruction was completed.
Members of the Garrison Fire Department, Continental Village Fire Department, and Putnam County Fire Police Team assisted at the scene along with members of the Garrison and Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, State Police from Cortlandt, Cold Spring Police, and a paramedic from the TransCare Ambulance Company.
