Proud of Putnam Democrats

Dear Editor:

As a life-long active Democrat, I want to say how proud I am of my friends Marc Pekowsky, David Wilson, and Kevin McConville, Democratic candidates for office in the Town of Carmel and County elections. Although they did not win, they did extremely well in a town and county known for having the Republican majority. They worked hard and met many local folk from all party affiliations who are just simply tired of the same old politics – especially in Carmel. Unfortunately, there were not enough votes for them to win. However, I would like to congratulate Suzie McDonough, whom we endorsed and who won a place on the Town Board.

On behalf of the candidates and the Democratic committees, I want to thank everyone who worked so hard in the election, making calls, going door-todoor and leafleting. We could not have come this far without you, and we will need you again in a couple of years’ time for the next election.

We view this first real election in many years as a step towards true democracy, when we no longer have one-party rule in Town. We will be back with more candidates next time, so volunteers can rest assured that although we may not be in government now, we will be fighting in the next election. Please stay positive and don’t give up. This election showed us that there are more Democrats than you think living here in Putnam, and we will bring them all out next time and win.
