Brewster Swimmers Head to State Meet
BREWSTER—Members of the Brewster High swim team turned in an impressive performance at the Section 1 championships, held last week at the Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack. Brewster finished third with 184.50 points, behind Ursuline (262) and Rye/ Blind Brook (189). Ali Polhill took firsts in the 100 fly (55.75) and also won the 100 backstroke (56.94, team record). PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley Tigers knew they were the underdogs in Sunday’s Class C field hockey championship game, but they sure didn’t play like it during regulation – twice taking the lead on a highly favored Bronxville squad, and taking the Broncos to overtime, before falling, 3-2, at Manhattanville College. Olympic Champion Visits Green Chimneys
Students at Green Chimneys had a rare opportunity when 2004 Olympic gymnastics gold medal winner Isao Yoneda, of Japan, visited Putnam County.
Yoneda, who not only took the gold but the bronze medal in the summer games five years ago, held several gymnastic demonstrations last Thursday while working individually with students on a variety of gymnastics activities. Full Story

Putnam Valley Takes Fifth at Cross Country Sectionals
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley High boys and girls cross country teams competed in the class C sectional championship race on Friday in Bowdoin Park.
The boys placed fifth out of 12 teams. “This was the first time we are ran in the class C,” said coach Jerry Zupan. ”I was very pleased with how they ran against some great teams.” Full Story

CARMEL—Carmel High’s Marielle Campbell just put the wraps on a stellar high school career last week, making her first trip to the state championship meet, where she went 4-1 and took first place in the consolation round.
