Bonita J. Bumgarner

Bonita J. Bumgarner, 68, of Altoona, PA, formerly of Carmel, passed away at home Tuesday after an extended illness. She was born June 9, 1941, in Altoona, the daughter of Harold S. and Olive M. (O’Keefe) Pollard. She married William L. Bumgarner in 1961.

Bonnie was Deputy Director of Civil Defense in Putnam County and a Sr. Clerk for the Putnam County Board of Elections. She served as Vice President of the Board of Education of the Carmel Central School District and as secretary of the Putnam County Democratic Committee. She was on the Putman Symphony Board of Directors, and managed Brownies, Cub Scouts, and various children’s sports. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, painting, jewelry making, music, and dance.

She is survived by her husband, William, a daughter, Denise L. Bumgarner, two sons, James P. Bumgarner and Craig T. Bumgarner, daughter-in-law, Jennifer S. Bumgarner, a sister, Patricia R. Pollard, two brothers Michael J. Pollard and David T. Pollard, two sisters-in-law, Sher and Lori Pollard, and grandchildren, Benjamin, Daniel, Andrew, Claire, and Ezri.

She was preceded in death by sister Margaret S. Shields and brother Patrick T. Pollard.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
