Gaffney, Bob, age 78, a 35 year resident of Brewster, NY, died peacefully at his home on November 23, 2009. He was the husband of Sherry (Dorff) Gaffney. Bob was born on October 8, 1931, in The Bronx, NY, to Thomas F. and Kathryn Elizabeth (Heffernan) Gaffney. He graduated from schools in the Bronx.
Bob was both a director and cinematographer and won many industry awards including three Academy Award nominations. He produced hundreds of television commercials through his production company, Bob Gaffney Productions in Manhattan. He was a member of the DGA (Directors Guild of America), as well as local #644—International Cameraman’s Guild.
Besides his wife, Sherry, of 30 years, Bob is survived by a daughter Lizz Gaffney (Charles Burrows) Brewster, NY; Paul Gaffney (Rosemary) Westin, CT; Brian Gaffney (Lori) Lake Oswego, OR; Robert Gaffney (Ellen) of Stony Brook, NY; a sister, Kathryn Grassi (Bob) of West Palm Beach, FL; and seven grandsons: Alec, Jimmy, Oliver, Devin, Griffin, Jack and Dylan.
Friends and family celebrated Bob’s life on December 1, 2009, in the midst of a memorial gathering at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, New York. A private cremation was held earlier.
