Richard A. Maxcy

Richard A. Maxcy age 73 of Brewster, New York died suddenly on Saturday December 5, 2009, in Hudson, New York.

Mr. Maxcy was born Apr. 22, 1936 in Riverside, RI, son of the late Frederick and Florence (Fitton) Maxcy. He graduated from Purdys Central High School in Purdys, NY, then married Barbara Brecht on Aug. 21, 1955, at the Croton Falls Baptist Church.

He then served in the Army from 1955 to 1957 and moved to Brewster in 1959. Mr. Maxcy worked for the North Salem School District for 35 years before retiring as the superintendent of grounds and transportation. He oversaw many school projects and construction in Brewster and North Salem. For many years he was a member of the Brewster School Board and was the Wet Lands Commissioner for the Town of Southeast.

Mr. Maxcy was predeceased by his wife Barbara on April 7, 1977. He is survived by his five children; Karen Palmer of Lake Ariel, PA, Susan Mercurio of Ridgefield, CT, Pamela Ward of New Milford, PA, Timothy Maxcy of Weston, CT and Patricia Petrillo of Poughquag, NY; three brothers, David Maxcy of Alameda, CA, Donald Maxcy of Mahopac, NY, Linwood Maxcy of NY, two sisters Priscilla Schwartz of Mahopac, NY, Lora Maxcy of Chatham, NY; and eleven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Fri. December 11, 2009 at the Croton Falls Community Church in Croton Falls. Interment will follow in June Cemetery in North Salem, NY. The wake will be held Thur. Dec. 10, from 4 to 8pm at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY 10509.
