John J. Winter was born April 15, 1952 and left us unexpectedly November 15, 2009. He was raised in Putnam Valley, NY. Prior to moving to Tucson in 1991, he owned and operated a successful restaurant. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, creativity, and an unbridled enthusiasm for anything on wheels. He was a great father and friend who will be missed for his “carpe diem” attitude and great sense of humor. John loved crafting everything from national award winning vehicles to cutting-edge fence and iron designs. His many passions included motorcycles, mastering karate, classic woodie wagons, ice racing, cooking and drumming. His creations received international recognition and he was frequently featured in magazines and museums. John leaves behind his cherished daughter, Trish Winter and her fiance;, Graeme Hunt in Tucson. Surviving in New York: mother, Helen Winter; siblings, Susan Kotzur, H olly Bidwell, William Winter, Patricia Fries and “the smartest dog in the world”, Killa. He was predeceased by siblings, Robert Winter, Eileen Adorno and father, Wilbur. He leaves behind nieces and nephews who will dearly miss his fun. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 1pm at Cargain Funeral Home 418 Route 6 in Mahopac, NY, 845-628-5655.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or to the Susan B. Komen Foundation in memory of his sister Eileen.
