Carmel Hands Brewster Second Loss of Season
Rooney’s season-high 27 lead Carmel attack
CARMEL—A sizzling hot Mike Rooney poured in a season-high 27 points, and Alex Grace ripped down 14 rebounds, as the Carmel High boys basketball team made a statement Monday by beating a good Brewster team, 59- 57, in a League 1-A game at Carmel.
The win lifted Carmel to 7-3 overall, 2-1 in league play. Full Story
Bears Top Beacon, Struggle at Duals
BREWSTER—The Brewster High wrestling team took down Beacon last week in a League 1-A match, 44-31, but the Bears went into a tough dual meet tournament short-handed over the weekend, and ended up struggling.
Brewster, which went into the weekend with a 10-1 dual meet record, went 2-5 at the 12-team, Battlefield Duals in Stafford, Virginia, leaving the Bears at 12-6. Full Story

MAHOPAC—Those from the area who follow high school wrestling know that the Indians have had success as a team this year, and some of its members are not to be reckoned with in their respective weight classes. PV Loses Two Tough Games
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley High boys basketball team lost a non-league game Monday to Eastchester, 57-30. On Friday Put Valley lost a league game to Ossining, 65-44. Full Story
Kennedy Rides 2Q Surge to Win over Lincoln Hall
SOMERS—Matt Schoen dropped in 22 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Kennedy Catholic High boys basketball team to a 63-49 victory over Lincoln Hall in a league game played last Wednesday at Kennedy High School.
Kennedy led 14-11 after a quarter, but the Gaels pulled away with a 23-7 second-period run that resulted in a 37- 18 halftime lead. Full Story
Bears Unable to Overcome Slow Start
BREWSTER—Despite two strong periods to close out the game, the Brewster High ice hockey team wasn't able to overcome an early three-goal deficit against league opponent Pawling last week, ultimately losing 5-2. The loss dropped Brewster to 2-10 on the year, and 0-6 in league play. Full Story
Mahopac Takes Home Wins against Carmel, Lakeland
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High boys basketball team capped off a good week by defeating rival Carmel, 62-50, at home in a League C game on Saturday.
That win came one day after defeating Lakeland on the road, 72-63, in overtime in another league game. Full Story
Brewster Hoopstresses Bury Panas, Yorktown
BREWSTER—The Brewster High girls basketball team worked on staying sharp last week, and the Bears did not get caught up in playing to the level of their opponent in routing both Panas, 56-31, and Yorktown, 66-28, in a pair of League 1-A games.
Friday it was Panas visiting Brewster, and the Panthers couldn’t get on the bus home fast enough. Full Story
Brewster’s Tapio Commits to Fordham
BREWSTER—Brewster High girls basketball standout Emily Tapio has verbally committed to attend Fordham University on a full basketball scholarship next fall.
Tapio, a senior guard/forward, has played on the Brewster varsity since she was called up in eighth grade, and has improved steadily each season. Full Story
Rams Extend Win Streak to Five Games
CARMEL—After losing three straight games to open the season, the Carmel High ice hockey team has rebounded, winning six of their last seven. With their wins against O'Neill High School, Yorktown and Ossining this past week, the Rams have won five straight. The Rams are now 6-4, with a 5-4 record against league opponents. Full Story
Mahopac Skates to 5-5 Tie with Lakeland
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High ice hockey team fell behind 4-1, but then came back to take a 5-4 lead before ending in a 5-5 tie with Lakeland on Saturday night in a Conference 1 game at the Brewster Ice Arena that went to overtime. Full Story
Bears Swimmers Come Up Short Against Greeley
BREWSTER—After nearly a threeweek layoff, the Brewster High boys swim team returned to action in a dual meet against Greeley at SUNY Purchase this past Friday. Despite a handful of strong performances, the Bears came up short, losing 97-83. The loss dropped the Bears’ record to 0-3 on the year with three meets left before Sectionals. Full Story
Gaels Win Streak Snapped
SOMERS—In their first game in nine days, the Kennedy Catholic girls basketball team had their five-game winning streak snapped in a 48-42 loss to Marist High School of Jersey City. The loss dropped the Gaels to 6-3 for the year. Full Story
Carmel Cruises Past Mahopac, Yorktown
CARMEL—The Carmel High girls basketball team cruised past a pair of over-matched opponents last week in two League 1-A games, ripping Mahopac, 65-21, Saturday, after routing Yorktown, 83-37, one night earlier at home.
Saturday at Mahopac (0-8, 0-2), the young Indians had no answers for the Rams, who built leads of 23-4 after one and 45-8 by halftime. Full Story
PV Drops First Two League Games
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley High girls basketball team lost at home on Friday to Ossining, 60-35, and Wednesday they lost on the road to Peekskill, 66-35.

Kennedy Runs Strong
SOMERS—The Kennedy Catholic High boys and girls winter track teams had quite the weekend. While the boys were capturing the league title, the girls came up just short in their own bid for the championship. The boys were able to pull away from second-place Pawling with a score of 171-150, while the girls came up short, losing 170-128 against Pawling as well. Full Story

Rams Look Beyond Top Finishes
CARMEL—The Carmel track team took a small group of kids up to the Armory Track on Saturday to participate in the Hispanic Games. With over 200 teams, and 6,000 athletes competing it was about more than just top finishes for the Rams. Full Story
Carmel Dominates Panas
CARMEL—The Carmel High wrestling team dominated Walter Panas last week, 71-9, in a dual meet held last Tuesday at Panas.
Carmel improved to 10-3 with the victory.
The Rams got wins via pin from Joe Caporale at 119, Rob Kirk at 125, Kevin Davidson at 130, James Autieri at 152, John Petriello at 160, Mike Panchishak at 189, and Fatmir Dervishaj at 285. Full Story

BREWSTER—The Brewster indoor track team took part in the Rockland Coaches Invitational at Rockland Community College on Friday. Coach Joe Scelia had nothing but good things to say about his team’s performance. Full Story

But that’s changed now.
