Outcry ensues over proposed school aid cuts
Local school officials feared doom and gloom and the worst case scenario was presented Tuesday by Governor David Paterson in his 2010-2011 budget message to members of the New York State Legislature.
School aid was ravaged by $46 million in Westchester, by $21.5 million in Dutchess, and by more than a whopping $5 million for Putnam’s seven school districts. Full Story

What’s another billion?
If Governor David Paterson has his way in the new budget season, New Yorkers will pay nearly $1 billion more in taxes and fees. The new taxes are being imposed to cover budget gaps in a 2010- 2011 budget that increases state spending during a prolonged economic downturn. Full Story
Carmel Grapplers Come Up Big, Deny ‘Pac
CARMEL—The Carmel High wrestling team recorded a 41-35 win over crosstown rival Mahopac last Wednesday in a league match at Carmel High School. Carmel also picked up a 41-27 victory over Yorktown, and closed the week at 11-3.
Mahopac also dropped a 42-35 decision to Sleepy Hollow a day later at Mahopac. Full Story

Serpe delivers two goals, including winner
BREWSTER—The Brewster High hockey team outplayed the Carmel High hockey team in a Friday night game at the Brewster Ice Arena, but came up short thanks to Carmel's Marc Glaviano. The senior goaltender stopped 38 shots to carry the Rams to a 3-2 win. Full Story
Brewster Boys Win League Title, Girls Finish Second
BREWSTER—The Brewster High indoor track team competed in the League 1-B championships last week. The boys finished first and edged out Lakeland/Panas by only 13 points, the girls finished second behind Lakeland/Panas. Full Story
